What Is P2P Measurement?
Point-to-Point (P2P) is a laser measurement method that calculates the straight-line distance between two arbitrary points in 3D space—neither of which you need to physically touch. Traditional laser distance meters measure from a single reference point to a surface in a direct line of sight. P2P goes further: by combining multiple angle and distance measurements using the DISTO X6 and DST 360-X tiltable adapter, the instrument computes the exact 3D vector between two defined target points.
The result is precise measurement data for spans, clearances, offsets, and coordinates that would otherwise require a total station, a second technician, or dangerous physical access—now delivered by one professional with a single handheld instrument.
How P2P Works
P2P measurements require the DISTO X6 mounted on the DST 360-X adapter. The workflow is fast and straightforward:
Mount the X6 on the DST 360-X Adapter
Secure the DISTO X6 to the DST 360-X tiltable tripod adapter. The DST 360-X allows the laser to pivot to any angle—up, down, sideways, or any combination—while recording the precise tilt and rotation values at all times.
Aim at the First Target Point
Point the laser at the first point you want to measure. The X6 records the distance along with the exact tilt and horizontal rotation angle from the DST 360-X—establishing the 3D position of Point A in space.
Aim at the Second Target Point
Without moving the tripod, pivot the DST 360-X to aim at the second point and take another measurement. The X6 now has the 3D position of Point B using the same fixed reference origin.
Read the P2P Result
The DISTO X6 calculates and displays the straight-line distance between Point A and Point B instantly. No trigonometry, no manual calculation. Results stream directly to the DISTO Plan app via Bluetooth for immediate DXF export and CAD use.
