Step 1 — Set up the laser
Mount the GL1425C on the FGC20 Elevator Tripod. Dial in your grade on both axes. The laser self-levels and begins rotating, projecting a 360° grade plane across the entire jobsite.

Step 2 — Mount the LR50W
Attach the LR50W machine receiver to the excavator boom using the magnetic mount. The 360° reception window catches the laser beam from any direction as the boom swings. The RD20 wireless display mounts inside the cab.

Step 3 — Dig to grade
Operate the excavator normally. The LR50W continuously reads the laser plane as the boom moves. The RD20 wireless in-cab display shows your grade status continuously — right in the cab.

FGC20 Heavy-Duty Elevator Tripod
Crank-up elevator column goes from 40" to 90" — gets the laser high enough to hit the receiver on the boom. Without an elevator tripod, the laser sits too low and you lose signal. This is what makes the whole system work on an excavator.
The LR50W is Spectra Precision’s crossover machine receiver — built for excavators and dozers. On the excavator, dig mode and the boom plumb indicator tell the operator when the arm is plumb and how close the bucket is to grade. Move it to a dozer, grader, scraper or box blade and grade mode plus the built-in blade-tilt indicator keep the blade on grade and level. The included RD20 wireless in-cab display puts grade, tilt and tones right in front of the operator.

Dig mode (offset on-grade)
More of the display sits above grade, so the operator gets an early warning as the bucket nears depth. It also turns on the plumb indicator. Accuracy: 12 / 25 / 50 mm (0.50 / 1.0 / 2.0 in.).
Boom plumb indicator
The reading is true when the dipper arm is plumb — and the LEDs tell you when it is. Fast flashing = arm extended, swing it in. Slow flashing = arm retracted, swing it out. Solid = plumb, take your reading.
Grade mode + blade tilt
Equal information above and below grade for dozers, graders, scrapers and box blades (5 / 10 / 20 mm). Five tilt LEDs show which side of the blade is low — on the receiver and the RD20, and slope matching zeroes tilt on an existing slope. Add the DM-20 dozer mount to move it to your dozer.

► What the RD20 In-Cab Display Does from the Seat
Corner-of-the-eye grading. Bright red, green and blue LEDs show high, on-grade and low. Standard mode shows how far off you are; battery-saver mode uses a single LED.
Tones you can hear over the machine. Distinct high, on-grade and low tones — High 105 dB, Medium 95 dB, Low 65 dB or off.
Blade tilt in the cab. The RD20 shows the LR50W’s tilt, and Match Tilt zeroes it at the current blade angle.
Change settings without climbing down. Accuracy (deadband), set the current beam position as on-grade, dig mode on or off, and receiver LED brightness.
Wireless, not Wi-Fi. A dedicated radio paired to the receiver at the factory. The LR50W still works on its own if the RD20 stays in the truck.
Power and mounting. 2 × AA batteries (about 20 hours on alkaline) or the included lighter-plug cord, which powers the display but does not charge it. Mounts on the quick-disconnect plate with tape, the three magnets, or bolts; optional RDM-1 swivel suction-cup mount.
Great for finish work: Spectra recommends the LR50W tilt sensor with the RD20 for finish grading, cut slopes and contoured surfaces like sports fields.

Buying for the in-cab display? This is the right kit. The in-cab display must be bought with a wireless (W) receiver — the LR30, LR50 and LR60 have no wireless card and can’t be upgraded later. If the operator can see the receiver and you don’t need the display, the MAXX-22 with the LR50 costs less and runs about twice as long on a charge.
Checking grade with the arm out of plumb? The LR50 reads accurately when the dipper arm is plumb — its plumb indicator tells you when. To check grade without re-plumbing, step up to the ProMAXX-2 (LR60W with the RD20) with patented ACE angle compensation and a taller 8.75 in. window.

The FGC20 is a heavy-duty fiberglass elevator tripod designed specifically for excavator grade laser applications. The crank-up elevator center column adjusts from 40" to a fully extended 90" — giving you an additional 50" of vertical reach without touching the legs. That extra height is what gets the GL1425C laser up to the level needed to align with the machine receiver mounted on your excavator boom. Without an elevator tripod, the laser sits too low to maintain a proper signal path to the boom-mounted receiver, causing unreliable grade readings or no signal at all. Quick-clamp leg locks and 5/8×11 thread mount for direct GL1425C compatibility.

What’s the difference between the LR50 and the LR50W?
Same receiver performance: 6.75 in. window, boom plumb indicator, blade tilt, dig and grade modes and accuracy settings. The LR50W adds a wireless card and comes with the RD20 in-cab display, which shows grade, tilt and tones inside the cab and lets the operator change receiver settings from the seat. Without the radio, the LR50 runs about twice as long on a charge (45 vs. 20 hours on NiMH, dim display).
Can I add the RD20 in-cab display to an LR50 later?
No. The LR50 has no wireless card, so it can’t be upgraded — the same goes for the LR30 and LR60. If your goal is an in-cab display, buy the kit with the display included: this kit, with the LR50W and RD20.
Will this kit work on my dozer or grader?
Yes. Switch to grade mode (center on-grade) for equal information above and below grade, and use the built-in blade-tilt indicator (also shown on the RD20) to keep the blade level or match an existing slope. Mount the receiver on a DM-20 dozer mount.
How does the plumb indicator work, and why does it matter?
A reading is only true when the dipper arm is plumb. In dig mode the LEDs flash fast when the arm is extended, flash slowly when it’s retracted, and go solid when it’s plumb — take the reading then, with the bucket in the same position every time. To check grade with the arm out of plumb, see the ProMAXX-2 with ACE angle compensation.
Which accuracy setting should I use?
Wide for rough digging and first passes (fewer changing readings), fine for the finish pass. Dig mode: 12, 25 or 50 mm. Grade mode: 5, 10 or 20 mm.
Does it work with my rotating laser?
The LR50 works with nearly all rotating lasers and reads both visible and invisible beams. Select a high rotation speed — it reads up to 1,200 RPM. The GL1425C in this kit is fully compatible.
How long do the batteries last, and can it run on machine power?
On the included NiMH batteries the LR50W runs about 20 hours (15 on bright), or 30 hours on alkaline C-cells. The receiver’s lighter-plug cord charges its batteries from the machine, and it can also run on 10–30 V DC machine power. The RD20 runs on 2 AA batteries (about 20 hours) or its own lighter-plug cord, which powers it but does not charge. The receiver warns with about 90 minutes left and shuts off 75 minutes after losing the beam.
Can I use the LR50W without the RD20?
Yes. The LR50W works as a stand-alone receiver with its own LED display. If it was paired and the RD20 is off, cycle the receiver’s power to clear the lost-link signal.
