iDig Touch Machine Control
iDig TOUCH 2D
Depth, slope and distance from the bucket, read straight from the cab. No grade checker in the hole, no cables down the boom, and no software to buy on top.
Contractors-Tools.com is an authorized iDig dealer. TOUCH 2D is arriving — call 1-877-866-5721 and we will spec one against your excavator.
The Simplest Way To Stop Guessing At Grade
TOUCH 2D is a wireless machine control system for excavators. You set a target depth or slope, and the cab tells you where the cutting edge is against it on every pass — so nobody has to climb out with a tape, and nobody has to stand in the hole.
Completely wireless and solar
The only 2D excavator guidance system that is fully wireless and solar-rechargeable. Nothing is welded on, no cable runs down the boom, and there is no sensor to remember to charge overnight.
2D only, and not upgradable
What you buy is what it does. TOUCH does not step up to 2D+ or 3D later, and it does not run a skid steer. If you want a system that can grow, that is CONNECT — and it is worth settling that before you buy rather than after.
Software already included
TOUCH 2D ships ready to work. There is no machine-class licence to buy on top, which is the real commercial difference against CONNECT.
Two hours to install
Install and calibrate in under two hours in your own yard — not a day in somebody else's shop with the machine off the job.
Two minutes to move
Fit mounting plates to a second excavator and the system swaps across in under two minutes. One system can cover a fleet, whatever the brand or size.
Which TOUCH 2D Kit
Same system, two sensor builds. The difference is one sensor, and it decides how much of the work the system can read for you.
| Model | Factory P/N | Sensor kit | Software |
|---|---|---|---|
| XD610 iDig TOUCH 2D Excavator Guidance System |
13003701 | 2× XD407 mini angle · 1× XD411 combo angle/laser · 1× BT408 chassis | Included |
| XD611 iDig TOUCH 2D with Big Combo |
13003703 | 2× XD407 mini angle · 1× XD437 Big Combo · 1× BT408 chassis | Included |
The BT408 chassis sensor is what gives you automatic pitch and roll compensation, so the reading holds when the machine is not sitting level. Call us and we will tell you which build suits the work you actually do.
TOUCH 2D vs CONNECT
Both are wireless, solar and self-installed. This is where they actually differ — and TOUCH is not the lesser one, it is the simpler one.
| Capability | iDig TOUCH 2D | iDig CONNECT |
|---|---|---|
| Machines it guides | Excavator | Excavator, and skid steer with the CT157 licence |
| How it is referenced | 2D — rotary laser or benchmark | 2D, 2D+ from GNSS, and 3D with a licence |
| Sensor capability | 1 axis | Multi-axis |
| Measurement rate | About 10 per second, over WiFi | 100 per second, over Bluetooth 5 |
| Software | Included — nothing further to buy | One-time licence per machine type |
| Where it can grow | Nowhere — 2D only, not upgradable. And for most excavator work that is enough | 2D+ from GNSS, 2D PROJECT, and full 3D on the same hardware |

Watch the price comparison carefully. CONNECT's system price looks lower, but CONNECT needs a machine-class licence on top and TOUCH does not. Ask us for the two numbers side by side before you decide — we will give you both honestly.
TOUCH 2D is arriving — talk to us first
We started this line with the hardest systems, and TOUCH is next in. If you are weighing TOUCH against CONNECT, a five-minute call will save you a great deal of reading — we will ask what machines you run and what you are digging, and tell you plainly which one fits.

Frequently Asked Questions
What machines does iDig TOUCH 2D work on?
Excavators. TOUCH 2D guides the bucket to a target depth, slope and distance from inside the cab. It is compatible with excavators of all brands and sizes, and it is not a skid steer system — a loader needs a GNSS reference, which is the CONNECT side of the range.
Is the software included with TOUCH 2D?
Yes. TOUCH 2D ships ready to work with its software already included, so there is no separate licence to buy. That is the main commercial difference against CONNECT, where the machine-class licence is a separate one-time fee.
How long does TOUCH 2D take to install?
Install and calibrate in under two hours, in your own yard. The sensors are solar-rechargeable and clip to magnetic mounting plates, so nothing is welded on and no cable is run through the machine.
Can I move TOUCH 2D between machines?
Yes. Once a second excavator is fitted with its own mounting plates, swapping the system across takes under two minutes. That is what makes one system cover a fleet rather than one machine.
Can TOUCH 2D be upgraded to 2D+ or 3D later?
No. TOUCH is 2D only and does not step up. It works to a rotary laser or a benchmark, and that is what it does for the life of the system. If you want the option to add a GNSS height reference for 2D+ or a licence for full 3D on hardware you already own, that is iDig CONNECT. This is the single most important difference between the two sides of the range.
How is TOUCH 2D different from iDig CONNECT?
TOUCH 2D is single-axis, reads about ten times a second over WiFi, and includes its software — the straightforward choice when depth and slope on an excavator is what you need. CONNECT is multi-axis, reads 100 times a second over Bluetooth 5, can take its height reference from GNSS for 2D+, runs a skid steer with the CT157 licence, and grows into 2D PROJECT and full 3D on the same hardware.
Do I need a laser with TOUCH 2D?
You need a height reference, which is either a rotary laser or a benchmark you shoot and hold. There is no base station, no correction subscription and no satellite dependency. We sell rotary lasers and will match one to your working range.
