Step 1 — Set up the laser
Mount the GL1425C on the FGC20 Elevator Tripod. Dial in your grade on both axes. The laser self-levels and begins rotating, projecting a 360° grade plane across the entire jobsite.

Step 2 — Mount the LR30W on the DM-20 mast
Bolt the DM-20 mast to the dozer blade — no welding. Set the blade at finished grade on a benchmark or hub stake, slide the LR30W on the mast until the on-grade LEDs light, then tighten the knobs. The RD20 wireless display mounts inside the cab.

Step 3 — Push to grade
Run the blade as you normally would. The LR30W reads the laser plane 360° around the machine, and its LED arrows show which way to move the blade — raise, lower or hold on grade.

Step 4 — Hear and see grade in the cab
The RD20 shows high, on-grade and low on bright red, green and blue LEDs at eye level, with a distinct tone for each (up to 105 dB) — so the operator can keep their eyes on the blade and the terrain.

How the LR30W works on your machines
Dozer, scraper or leveler
Mount it on the DM-20 mast. The operator controls the blade so the receiver stays in the on-grade range — the LEDs, and the RD20 in the cab, show which way the blade needs to move.
Skid steer
Spectra lists the LR30 for skid steers and skid steers with a blade. Mount it on a mast such as the Weld-On skid steer mast (add-on below) and grade the same way.
Excavator or backhoe (grade checking)
Put the dipper arm vertical and the bucket in the same setup position for every reading. The LR30W has no plumb indicator, so plumb is judged by eye — use the MM-1 magnetic mount (add-on below). For a plumb indicator, see the LR50W.

► What the RD20 In-Cab Display Does from the Seat
- Corner-of-the-eye grading. Bright red, green and blue LEDs show high, on-grade and low. Standard mode shows how far off you are; battery-saver mode uses a single LED.
- Tones you can hear over the machine. The LR30W on the mast has lights only — the RD20’s built-in speaker gives distinct high, on-grade and low tones: High 105 dB, Medium 95 dB, Low 65 dB or off. Recognize grade without taking your eyes off the terrain.
- Change settings without climbing down. Set the receiver’s accuracy (fine, medium or coarse) and its LED brightness from the cab.
- Wireless, not Wi-Fi. A dedicated radio paired to the receiver at the factory, built to prevent interference when several machines work the same area. The LR30W still works on its own if the RD20 stays in the truck.
- Power and mounting. 2 × AA batteries (about 20 hours on alkaline) or the included lighter-plug cord, which powers the display but does not charge it. Mounts on the quick-disconnect plate with tape, magnets or bolts; optional RDM-1 swivel suction-cup mount.
Built for pads: Spectra positions the LR30 and LR30W for housing and commercial pads — adjustable on-grade settings match the job spec, so more pads get finished in a day.
► LR30W vs. LR50W — Which is right for your machine?
Both come with the RD20 in-cab display and tones, the 6.75 in. window and three accuracy settings. The LR30W is the dedicated grading receiver with the longer battery life; the LR50W adds blade-tilt and plumb indicators and a dig mode for excavators.

Buying for the in-cab display and tones? This is the right kit. The RD20 must be bought with a wireless (W) receiver — the LR30, LR50 and LR60 have no wireless card and can’t be upgraded later. On a dozer, the RD20’s tones are what let the operator hear grade without looking up at the mast.

Does the LR30W receiver beep, or do the tones come from the RD20?
The tones come from the RD20. The LR30W on the mast shows grade on its LEDs; the RD20 in the cab has the built-in speaker, with distinct high, on-grade and low tones at High 105 dB, Medium 95 dB, Low 65 dB or off. That’s what lets a dozer operator hear grade while watching the blade and the terrain.
Can I add the RD20 in-cab display to an LR30 later?
No. The LR30 has no wireless card, so it can’t be upgraded — the same goes for the LR50 and LR60. If your goal is an in-cab display, buy the kit with the display included: this kit, with the LR30W and RD20.
What’s the difference between the LR30W and the LR50W?
Both work with the RD20 and have the 6.75 in. window. The LR30W is Spectra’s grading receiver: one center on-grade mode, accuracy of 5, 12 or 32 mm, and about 30 hours on NiMH. The LR50W adds a blade-tilt indicator, a plumb indicator and dig mode for excavators, and runs about 20 hours. For those, see the MAXX-2.
Will it work on my skid steer, backhoe or excavator?
Yes. Spectra lists the LR30 for skid steers as well as dozers, scrapers and levelers — mount it on a mast such as the Weld-On skid steer mast. On an excavator or backhoe it works as a grade checker: put the dipper arm vertical and the bucket in the same setup position each time. The LR30W has no plumb indicator, so plumb is judged by eye; mount it with the MM-1 magnetic mount. For plumb indication, see the MAXX-2; for ACE angle compensation, the ProMAXX-2.
How do I install the DM-20 dozer mast?
The DM-20 bolts to the blade with the included bracket and hardware — no welding, and no drilling or tapping on Trimble Ready machines. It fits most dozer blades and pivots so the mast can be set plumb. Set the blade at finished grade, slide the receiver on the mast until the on-grade LEDs light, and tighten the knobs. The receiver and mast can sit higher than the machine, so watch for overhead lines and remove them for transport.
Which accuracy setting should I use?
Wide (32 mm / 1.25 in.) for rough grading and first passes, Fine (5 mm / 0.20 in.) for the finish pass. Standard (12 mm / 0.45 in.) is the factory setting. You can change it on the receiver or from the RD20 in the cab.
Does it work with my rotating laser?
The LR30W works with nearly all rotating lasers and reads both visible and invisible beams, at 105 to 1,200 RPM. The GL1425C in this kit (300, 600 or 900 RPM) is fully compatible.
How long do the batteries last, and can it run on machine power?
On the included NiMH batteries the LR30W runs about 30 hours (20 on bright), or 40 hours on alkaline C-cells, with the radio on. A full charge takes about 3 hours, and the receiver doesn’t run while it’s on the AC charger. It can also run on 10–30 V DC machine power. The RD20 runs on 2 AA batteries (about 20 hours) or its own lighter-plug cord, which powers it but does not charge. The receiver warns with about 90 minutes left and shuts off 75 minutes after losing the beam.
Can I use the LR30W without the RD20?
Yes. The LR30W works as a stand-alone receiver with its own LED display. If it was paired and the RD20 is off, cycle the receiver’s power to clear the lost-link signal.
