Spectra Precision GL722-10 — Straight Answers
From Spectra Precision's own documentation for the GL700 series, which we host on this site. If your question is not here, call 1-877-866-5721 and ask a person who sets these up.
What makes the GL722-10 worth the step up?
The long-range radio remote, PlaneLok, Grade Match Mode and Automatic Axis Alignment - none of which the GL710 or GL720 carry. One person sets, changes and checks grade without returning to the laser. The -10 package pairs it with the CR600 machine-mountable receiver.
What is the grade range on a GL722-10?
Dual axis: -10 to +10% X and -0.5 to +25% Y, over a 900 metre diameter.
How far will it reach?
900 metres - 3,000 feet - in diameter, and that is the same across the whole GL700 series. The range belongs to the transmitter, not the receiver, so it does not change with which receiver you pair it with.
What rotation speeds does it run, and which should I use?
300, 600 and 900 rpm, selected from the rotation-control button. For hand-held work on a grade rod any of them is fine. If you are running a machine receiver, use 600 rpm as a minimum and faster if you have it - the faster the head spins, the more times the beam crosses the receiver every minute and the more often the operator's display updates. On a dozer or a skid steer making quick changes in elevation, a slow laser leaves the display chasing the blade.
Which receivers does it work with?
Spectra Precision HL700 and CR600 receivers, and the Trimble LR410 machine receiver. The GL700 series is part of the Trimble Grade Control System family, so it also works alongside GCS300, GCS600 and GCS900 grade control systems for automatic lift and tilt.
Does it self-level?
Yes, automatically, across the whole grade range - which is what makes setup repeatable rather than something you fiddle with. It also carries active temperature compensation, so the beam holds its plane as the day warms up rather than drifting off it.
Is it built for a jobsite?
Fully sealed rugged aluminium housing, weather-resistant control panel, a built-in non-slip carrying handle and a protective lens hood for working in bad weather. The beam is high-powered and visible, which matters in dust.
What is the warranty?
Two years. Worth knowing: calibration is specifically not covered - keeping the laser in calibration is the owner's responsibility. We can check and certify one for you; call 1-877-866-5721.
What does the radio remote actually let me do?
Change and read grade from wherever you are - including from inside the machine cab - without walking back to the transmitter. It is two-way, so the remote confirms what the laser did. There is grade bump to nudge the plane up or down, and grade reverse to mirror a grade setting with one button. On a long pull that is the difference between one man running the job and two.
What is PlaneLok?
PlaneLok locks the beam to a fixed elevation and holds it there. Set a hand receiver at the height you want, select PlaneLok on the remote, and the beam stays at exactly that elevation all day regardless of wind or temperature change. It is the answer to beam drift on work where rework is expensive.
What is Grade Match Mode?
It matches the laser to a slope that already exists. Set your receiver at the same height as the transmitter, go to your remote point, press a button on the remote, and the transmitter works out and displays the grade itself - without you walking back to it.
What is Automatic Axis Alignment?
It aligns a grade axis to a remote point up to 150 metres - 500 feet - away. Rough the transmitter in to within 40 degrees of the point, then press a button on the remote and the axis aligns itself, with confirmation on the remote. One person, no guessing, and repeatable the next time.
Who am I buying from?
Contractors-Tools.com, an authorized Spectra Precision dealer. We set these up every week. Tell us the work and the machines and we will spec the laser and the receiver together before you order. Call 1-877-866-5721.
