Topcon RC-500 Remote Control
The RC-500 Allows you to remotely control most functions of the TP-L6AV as shown below. The RC-500 is convenient for aligning the beam while using a transit, or for saving power by temporarily putting the unit in standby mode using the ON/OFF switch
Operating range by remote control
Approximately 656 feet the pipe from a forward position
Approximately 85 feet from above the panel
The Laser ON/OFF switch controls the laser beam only, not for the instrument. To turn power OFF to the instrument, be sure to switch OFF the instrument after operation is finished. When the power is turned off by the laser ON/OFF switch, "STANDBY" is indicated on the display and the laser flashes once for five seconds. (standby mode).
RC-500 is a remote controller used exclusively for TP-L6W series pipe lasers. You cannot operate any other instrument except the TP-L6 Series through the RC-500 remote control. You cannot operate the TP-L6 Series with the RC-200 Remote. To turn the laser beam ON again after the laser is turned off by the remote control, wait for 2 seconds or more and press the laser ON/OFF switch for 2 seconds or more. Large atmospheric motions could shorten the operating range by the remote control. To prevent atmospheric motions from occurring, limit the working range within the shade or use a blower for working.

Questions We Actually Get
Topcon TP-L6B — Straight Answers
Every figure below comes from Topcon's own TP-L6 series specifications, which we host on this page. If your question is not here, call 1-877-866-5721 and ask somebody who sets these up on a jobsite.
What is the Topcon TP-L6B (1034437-05)?
The TP-L6B is a Topcon TP-L6 series pipe laser with a red 635 nm beam, built for setting grade in sewer and storm pipe, from the manhole or the trench box.
What grade range does it cover?
Per Topcon's specifications the TP-L6 series reads grade from -15% to +40%, with a minimum setting of 0.001%, using an absolute encoder.
How accurate is it?
Topcon lists horizontal accuracy at ±10 arc seconds, with auto leveling of ±10% in the slope direction and about ±4° in the axis direction.
How long does the battery last?
It runs on the BDC72 Li-ion battery. Topcon lists about 60 hours for the red-beam models at 20°C (68°F). A charge takes about 8 hours on the CDC77 charger.
Is it waterproof?
Yes. Topcon rates the TP-L6 series IPX8 (IEC 60529:2001) when the battery holder is attached, so it can sit in a wet pipe.
What laser class is it?
Class 3R, 4.5 mW output, with a 12 mm collimated beam, per Topcon's specifications.
How far does the RC-500 remote work?
Through the pipe from a forward position about 200 m (656 ft); from above, about 25 m (82 ft). It runs about 8 months on two AA batteries and is IPX6 rated.
Does it have automatic alignment?
No. Automatic alignment is on the TP-L6G, GV and AV models. The TP-L6B is the economy model: you line it up with line control (about 17° of adjustment) from the panel or the RC-500 remote.
