Downward (nadir) shooting plumb laser
Why Crews Choose the QUAD 1000HDD
Nadir Beam to 2,000 Feet
One downward beam carries plumb control 609.6 metres into the hole — the full depth of a shaft without re-establishing control on the way down.
Prism Mount on Top
A 5/8-11 female thread on the top plate takes a survey prism, so you can traverse the laser across your platform with a total station and set it precisely on the plumb point.
±5 Arc Second Accuracy
±1/32 inch per 100 feet (.793 mm per 30.48 m). The spot measures .500 inch at the lens and about 1.40 inches at 1,500 feet.
Temperature Compensated
Electronic servo self-levelling senses ambient temperature change while running and continually recalibrates, so a reading taken hours into a shift matches the one taken at setup.
Sealed Against the Job
Purged and dry-nitrogen filled to IP67 inside a heavy ¼-inch aluminium housing with a hard-coat anodised finish. Dust and water are not a factor.
One Button, Ten Seconds
Press power and the unit self-levels in under ten seconds. The beam blinks while levelling and goes steady when it is in spec. Battery and level status show on a backlit LCD.

QUAD 1000HDD vs QUAD 1000HDU — Which One Do You Need?
| QUAD 1000HDD — DOWN | QUAD 1000HDU — UP | |
|---|---|---|
| Main beam | Nadir — straight down | Zenith — straight up |
| Range | 2,000 ft (609.6 m) down | 2,000 ft (609.6 m) up |
| Second beam | None | Downward plummet, 1 arc min at 15 ft |
| Getting over the point | Mount a survey prism on the 5/8-11 top thread and traverse with a total station | Use the built-in plummet beam |
| 5/8-11 female thread | On top, for a survey prism | For a tripod |
| Typical use | Shooting down a shaft from a platform over an opening | Shooting up a shaft, high-rise plumb control, zenith transfer |
| Accuracy, housing, case, cord | Identical — ±5 arc seconds, IP67, 10.5 lb, same trivet, targets, cord and case | |
Both models are the same instrument in the same housing. The only question is which way your control has to travel. Need the upward version? See the QUAD 1000HDU — UP.
Accessories & Spare Parts
1140 Series Power Converter
Runs the laser at 13 VDC from 90–260 VAC. Senses the supply voltage automatically. The answer when there is shore power at the collar and you would rather not run off a battery all shift.
