How to read these part numbers
- LR30 vs LR30W The W means wireless. A LR30W pairs with the RD20 display so the operator reads grade in the cab. A plain LR30 has no radio. Both look the same, and adding wireless to a plain LR30 later means an expensive factory service, so buy the W up front if you might want the cab display.
- -MM Includes the MM-1 magnetic mount, for excavators and backhoes.
- -DM Includes the DM-20 bolt-on mount, for dozers.
- -1 Runs on alkaline batteries instead of the NiMH rechargeable pack.
- LR30W-2 The wireless LR30W receiver without the RD20 display, for when you already have one or will add it later.

Spectra LR30 — Straight Answers
Everything below comes from Spectra Precision's own documentation for these receivers, which we host on this site. If your question is not here, call 1-877-866-5721 and ask a person who sets these up.
What is the Spectra LR30-1 best suited to?
General grading: dozers, graders, scrapers, skid steers and box blades. It is a 5-channel machine display receiver (High, Fine High, On-Grade, Fine Low, Low) with directional arrows telling the operator to raise or lower the blade. For blade tilt or excavator plumb, step up to the LR50 or LR60.
Can I add the RD20 wireless display later?
No, not sensibly. The LR30-1 has no radio, and fitting one is an expensive factory service. If you might want the in-cab display, buy the LR30W instead. They look the same from the outside.
How accurate is it?
Per Spectra’s LR30 user guide, the on-grade band is 5 mm (0.20 in) on Fine, 12 mm (0.45 in) on Standard and 32 mm (1.25 in) on Wide.
How far will it pick up the laser?
Over 460 m (1500 ft) radius, depending on the laser, with 360-degree reception and a 171 mm (6.75 in) vertical reception window.
How long do the batteries last?
Per Spectra’s user guide the LR30 runs about 50 hours (display dim) or 40 hours (bright) on Ni-MH, and 75 or 50 hours on alkaline. It can also run from machine power, 10 to 30 V DC. Recharge takes 3 to 4 hours.
Does it shut itself off?
Yes. It turns off after 75 minutes with no laser beam, to save the batteries.
What mast sizes do the clamps fit?
Round tube 42 to 50 mm (1.66 to 2.00 in) outside diameter, or 38 mm (1.5 in) square tube.
What rotation speed should my laser run?
Run the laser at 600 RPM or faster for a responsive display on a machine. Spectra lists 105 RPM as the minimum the receiver tolerates, not a working speed.
What is deadband, and which setting should I use?
Deadband is the on-grade zone. Spectra’s hands-on training puts it simply: a wider deadband cuts the noise and the constantly changing readings, which suits the first pass and rough grading. A narrower one is more accurate, for the final finish pass. The LR30 has three: 5, 12 and 32 mm.
Which machines is the LR30 the right receiver for?
Spectra’s own training says the LR30W is the correct tool for any dozer. The LR30 family suits general grading on dozers, graders, scrapers, skid steers and box blades. For excavator plumb or blade tilt, look at the LR50; for angle compensation on excavators, the LR60.

Your laser tells the site where grade is.
It still cannot tell the operator.
A machine receiver on the mast puts the laser plane on the machine. The operator still reads a bargraph and works out the rest.
iDig puts depth, slope and distance to target on a screen in the cab — read straight off the cutting edge, off the same rotary laser or benchmark you already shoot. No grade checker in the hole. No cable down the boom.
